Mission, Vision, & Values

We’re on a mission to ensure that young people gain a deep understanding of our history, culture, government, institutions, and current affairs from diverse sources and perspectives. They vote, think critically, and have concern for the welfare of people of all backgrounds in their communities and across the nation. They debate and learn from each other, and work across difference to form a more perfect union.

Now is the time to create an effective citizenry that strengthens democracy—together.

Investing in young people leapfrogs today’s hyper-partisan deadlock in politics and has the potential to restore a spirit of civic cooperation and belonging we haven’t seen in generations.

But our investment can’t begin and end with high school civics or voting initiatives. Youth civic development is a journey from adolescence through early adulthood and must reach beyond the walls of a classroom.

Citizens & Scholars focuses on a truly holistic approach to develop youth as effective, lifelong citizens.
