Returning to our Roots

Our greatest hope for saving American democracy is investing in the civic development of young people. A focus on building civic knowledge, skill, and dispositions must exist in all the places young people learn—inside the classroom and out, at home and in the workplace.

This white paper, Returning to our Roots: Educating for Democracy, from Generation Citizen serves as a concept paper on youth civic engagement and the need for more if we are to save American democracy. The solution proposed is to both educate and empower young people with the knowledge and skills training that’ll allow them to become informed and active citizens capable of making positive changes on their own, for themselves, and for the collective good.
