Digital Political Ethics

Aligning Principles with Practice

Civic learning takes place everywhere a young person learns and engages with the world, including in the digital space. Digital Political Ethics aims to establish best practices for digital campaigning in the U.S.

The paper outlines four ethical principles: prioritizing democratic participation, protecting election integrity, increasing transparency, and ensuring fairness and consistency. By focusing conversations from bipartisan stakeholder across these four principals, the authors were able to make recommendations for what can and should be done by platforms and practitioners to better align digital campaigns to these ethical principles and for how government can hold such groups accountable.
