This year, the Institute for Citizens & Scholars was proud to build on the 75-year legacy of excellence that the former Woodrow Wilson Foundation represents.
Through the many social and political challenges of 2021, our community of thinkers, scholars, teachers, community leaders, and students were there to meet the moment.
In a year that has been anything but “normal,” it’s comforting to reflect on the bright moments that brought us hope, happiness, and pride in 2021.
Below are just some of the milestone moments of our community. We need your support to transform these moments into momentum.
Help us support the next generation of Fellows who are committed to shaping a society where all people can thrive.
Two Mellon Career Enhancement Fellows were named MacArthur Fellows. Jacqueline Stewart ’02 and Monica Muñoz Martinez ’17 will each receive $625,000, no strings attached, as seed money for their intellectual and social endeavors.
Sharita Ware, Teaching Fellow ’11 was named Indiana Teacher of the Year for her use of hands-on and real-world projects to teach STEM, as well as her success in launching several afterschool programs for students at East Tipp Middle School.
Policy entrepreneurs of the Brewer Fellowship to Unite America began working across party lines to reform voting and heal our nation’s divisions. Fellows are senior leaders focused on electing pro-reform candidates and bringing about structural change in our system of government.
A coalition of Women’s Studies Fellows across generations formed an advisory council to reimagine the Fellowship as it nears its 50th anniversary.
The Kentucky Student Voice Team (Civic Spring Fellows ’20) launched a #SaveOurSeats Campaign that successfully retained non-voting student and teachers’ seats on the state Board of Education. The team also authored The Co-Creation Generation, a resource guide to help organizations engage young people in program design and organizational leadership.
