In Chicago, a team of C&S Fellows from the University of Chicago Charter School organized an inaugural back-to-school Community Health & Wellness Field Day for more than 700 students and families in their neighborhood. The event included twenty-two vendors and hosted more than 700 people from their school community and beyond.

Fellows succeeded in providing a friendly environment for community members to interact with organizations focused on mental, physical, and community health, pick up school supplies, and participate in fun, youth-focused activities.

While in Chicago this week, Citizens & Scholars President Rajiv Vinnakota had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with these Fellows about their individual experiences and presenting them with a certificate of recognition for their work.

Building on the foundation of community-trust, these C&S Fellows plan to work with school administrators to host a series of vaccination drives to help combat low COVID vaccination rates in the community.

Fellows succeeded in providing a friendly environment for community members to interact with organizations focused on mental, physical, and community health, pick up school supplies, and participate in fun, youth-focused activities.

These young leaders—like the others in our network across the country—demonstrate the power, voice, and civic leadership that can be the hallmark of the next generation.
