The Institute for Citizens & Scholars is committed to the privacy of its Fellows and friends. Visitors to this website who choose to apply for fellowships or other programs administered by Citizens & Scholars may be asked for their mailing addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, Social Security Numbers, and other contact information. These data are used to create database records for fellowship competitions and Fellows’ information, and, on occasion, to describe (without personal attribution) the nature and breadth of applicant pools for given fellowship competitions.
In addition, individuals who choose to make financial contributions to Citizens & Scholars may voluntarily enter credit card numbers and related information on this Web site. Records of individuals who become Fellows or who voluntarily provide information on this Web site may be retained at the Institute for Citizens & Scholars for purposes of business correspondence.
- Any page on this Web site that requires entry of personal information is a secure page that employs advanced encryption technology.
- Citizens & Scholars does not sell, share, or provide lists of Fellows or fellowship applicants, or any portion of such lists or the information they contain, to third parties or external agencies for purposes other than those of C&S business, and it prohibits internal use of such information for purposes other than those described herein.
- From time to time Citizens & Scholars may supply its lists to subcontractors for the purposes of publishing Fellowship directories; Fellows may opt out. The C&S may also occasionally engage an external agency to contact a limited number of Fellows for surveys, fundraising, and other related purposes. C&S only engages external agencies that agree not to sell or share any information they have collected or been provided.
On occasion, if a third party seeks to contact a Fellow through C&S, C&S may alert the Fellow and, if the Fellow so instructs, facilitate the contact. In instances where a third party seeks biographical information about a Fellow in support of a scholarly or commercial project, the Fellow or his/her estate will be consulted for permission up to fifty years after the date of the Fellow’s first application to the Institute for Citizens & Scholars. After fifty years, biographical information may be released to researchers at the discretion of C&S. Otherwise, Citizens & Scholars does not assist third parties in contacting Fellows.
Fellows may receive (by surface mail, email, or telephone) occasional requests to participate in Citizens & Scholars events or support C&S’ work. Fellows may also receive periodic updates, by surface mail or email, about the C&S’ work. Any Fellow or friend of the C&S who wishes to request revisions to these records may contact the Webmaster, who will forward the request to appropriate Citizens & Scholars staff for response.
The Institute for Citizens & Scholars reserves the right to change this policy and to modify any program described on this Web site without notice or liability. Any such modification is prospectively binding on users. Please review this page periodically when you visit the site to receive information about C&S’ latest policies on privacy and information security.
